Deadline Extended for the 2026 Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards
The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) has extended the deadline for submissions to the 2026 Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards, offering journalists a renewed opportunity to enter their work following the initial closing date of 31 March 2026.
Recognising that several entrants were unable to meet the original deadline due to unforeseen circumstances, SANEF has granted an extension to ensure that no deserving work is left unrecognised. The new submission deadline is Wednesday, 15 April 2026.
This extension presents a vital second chance for journalists across South Africa to submit the most compelling and impactful stories for consideration.
Entries for the awards opened on 2 February 2025, inviting journalists to submit work published or broadcast between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025. The awards honour excellence across multiple platforms, including print, digital/online, and broadcast media (radio and television).
Winners will be celebrated at a prestigious ceremony scheduled for Friday, 3rd July 2026, in Johannesburg.
The Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards stands as a beacon of journalistic excellence in South Africa, recognising work that informs, educates, and holds power to account. Over the years, the awards have become a cornerstone of media recognition, underscoring the vital role of journalism in strengthening democracy.
SANEF is proud to host the awards for the fourth consecutive year, continuing a proud legacy previously administered by Publishers’ Support Services (formerly PDMSA). The awards spotlight outstanding achievements in categories such as investigative journalism, feature writing, lifestyle journalism, and photojournalism.
